Hi! I just came here to say that I love your art and style! You seem to be an experienced artist. Do you have any tips on using colours?
Hello ! thank you so much for your kind words !
Colours can be very disapointing, and for me it's a "new" subject. I've been focusing on other basics those last years, and have been starting colour just since july. What works for me the best are the following :
- sticking to a reduced color palette that I enjoy. For me it's oranges, beiges, dark blues and green, and greys. Keeping it simple keeps it easier. I notice that most artist have a preferencial color palette. If you go on art station, and take a look at advanced artists, you'll see theres a kind of harmony. I'm not there still, I'm still building my palette...
- analyzing paintings you like. grab a color picker, and pick colours in the painting, you'll have so many surprises. A colour you would have guessed saturated will not be when you pick it. Or it will be way more yellow, way brighter. This helps teach the eye to see the colours accurately
- when I start a painting, I bucket a color on it, not a gray. It helps a lot building colour from the start with an harmony. I notice if I start with grey, I'll have a hard time injecting color in it.
- when I struggle in finding a cool color scheme, I use an AI tool like wombo dream or midjourney, to get ideas to colour pick after
I hope it helps !
Thank you so much for your help! I cannot wait to try these.
you're welcome ! tell me how it turned out when you try !
